Talk about a co-worker who totally rocks. Literally. In addition to his diligent work and impactful contributions to MTC’s Account Services team as Senior Account Executive, Tom is a drummer in both a local Baltimore punk-rock karaoke band and the punk-rock band Panic Problem.
His band membership, love for craft beer and first job at the local Parks & Rec department are all very telling of his open-minded, easy-going personality. However, when he’s not thinking about his next jam session or how to master Google’s most recent update (this is where we mention he rocks at SEO, too), Tom’s other talents include coming up with fascinating answers to random questions:
Q: What is your hidden talent?
A: I can read minds. Right now, you’re wondering how I do that, aren’t you?
Q: What was your first job?
A: I started my first job when I was 15. I worked for my local Parks & Rec department…mostly at local beaches working the permitting booth where we sold and checked for beach permits. I know it sounds like a glorious job but add in the cleaning of bathrooms and regular picking-up of trash after seafood festivals and it loses its luster. Fast. I did get time to read books and listen to music from time to time, so that was cool. I’ve been working ever since.
Q: If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?
A: Total mind control. It’s really the only super power you need. Sure, there’s the mutants that are super strong, can fly, shoot fire, freeze things, stop time, etc., but if you can control all of their minds and make them do whatever you want…you win. Mind control. Easy choice.
Q: When not at work, you’ll likely find me…
A: Playing in a band, listening to music or making food and/or beer for people…or going to see a band play music while drinking beer after spending time eating food made by other people. I also like watching sports. Go sports!
Q: If you could have dinner with anyone (past, present, future) who would it be?
A: The Buddha, right after he became enlightened. I’m pretty sure it would be a solid feast of Indian delicacies and we would just talk about his approaches to life and then I’d start telling him about the world today and he would probably expect everything I told him as far as all the suffering and whatnot (he knows all about suffering…look it up). Then, I’d share some rad new music from the future with him and he’d get all excited and then feel better. Next, I’d say, “See! I helped alleviate some of your suffering right there.” He would high-five me. We would laugh. Then, I’d ask him if he wanted to sing for my new band. If he was down, we would get back into my intergalactic time-traveling phone booth and continue on to various time periods to fill out the rest of the band roster with other historical figures.
Q: What do you have that you cannot live without?
A: Music. I can’t imagine the world without it or how I would even survive. The beauty of it is that you don’t even need to own a physical instrument to create! Use your voice, clap your hands, stomp your feet – rhythm and melody exist regardless of your material possessions. Granted, I do enjoy having instruments and recording equipment at my disposal…but should there ever be a moment when those things are taken away, the ability to create is still left behind.
